This information is very interesting for me - I will definetly use it. Is there an option to choose the right directory for the type of site one submits. Mine would be of course lean manufacturing consulting.

First thing, if your site related to manufacturing consulting than you can submit it to Niche directories of your category. that you can find from above lists. Also try to get into all these general directories slowly
Any directory is right those provide you some traffic or atleast good backlink,

Hi Manish, thanks for the tip. I briefly looked at the links above. It looks useful, but I’ll need time to work through it. I wonder which ones of the directories google would actually list as backlinks, since it may see some of them as “link farms”. Actually I got some good backlinks via directories, but it seems those were also very well structured entries with the right keywords and so on.

Link farms are generally a farm of sites that interlink so i wouldn’t say directories are link farms, there is no particular things like “Human Edited” in Linkfarms. one can submit ANY Link there.. on the other hand, i think well structured and categorized directories having more value on google. but Generally less links/category may provide you better link back.
